Donald Sultan. American, born 1951, lives and works in NYC. After extensive experience in the theater arts acting and building sets, Donald Sultan decided to pursue art professionally and earned a BFA from the University of North Carolina and an MFA at the Art Institute of Chicago. A sculptor, printmaker, and painter, Sultan is most well-known for his large-scale still lifes and use of industrial material. His striking and innovative use of materials include cutting images out of floor tiles, covering them with tar and plaster, proceeding to draw or paint, and mounting on masonite. Sultan’s international fame has ensured he remains an important figure in Pop Art for many generations to come.
