Warhol’s influence on visual art, music, and culture cannot be overstated. Known as the father of American Pop Art, he also pioneered digital art, film art, and IMMERSIVE MULTIMEDIA performances (many of which included The Velvet Underground, the seminal rock band whose success is in part credited to Warhol’s management and collaboration)—but if Warhol was master of one field over all others it was that of the art market. Warhol manipulated the production, acquisition, and sales of artwork to rapidly advance the trajectory of art history, while benefiting himself and other creatives, and shifting societal, cultural, and aesthetic values. Along the way he made GROUNDBREAKING artworks that embody the rapid changes of the 60s and still burn bright in today’s visual and conceptual zeitgeist. Obsessed with celebrity, consumer culture, and reproduction, Warhol created some of the most iconic images of the 20th century.
