Speedy Graphito
2017
Acrylic on canvas
40.0059.00

Olivier Rizzo took the name Speedy Graphito in 1983 and became one of the pioneers of French street art, linking it to the larger Pop art movement through his rampant use of brand iconography and his focus on corporate predation abusing consumer desire, particularly in youth. Speedy’s influence extends well beyond the Parisian urban artist circles and has helped define the trajectory of street art on the global scale—an art increasingly responsive to contemporary thought and popular culture, while honoring its genesis as a form that exposes issues of class and social plight.Speedy Graphito holds regular solo exhibitions in L.A. and Paris. His work was exhibited at Art Basel Miami in 2011 and is held in the collections of the Naples French Institute, the Regional Centre of Contemporary Art in Fontenoy, The French Institute in Prague and the French Embassy in Tokyo.
